Volunteering in San Diego
Have you been thinking about volunteering in San Diego and just didn't know where to start. I spend much of my time volunteering with different organizations. Over the years, I have volunteered at elementary schools, middle schools, United We Paint, Voices for Children, STEP, Rebuilding Together, Warrior Foundation and many others. I believe giving back to your community is very important. So if you know of an organization that is in need of volunteers, please let me know and I will add them to my website.
VOICES FOR CHILDREN I am currently a case assessor volunteer with an organization called Voices for Children. This organization trains volunteers to be court appointed advocates for foster children. I am currently trained to review case files and help locate children in the foster care system who are in need of having an advocate assigned to their case. Sadly, each month 200 more abused children in San Diego County enter the foster care system. There are now over 7,500 children in foster care who need help. You can make a difference. Please visit their website for more information on this very important program, call 858-569-2019 or email info@voices4children.com. WARRIOR FOUNDATION Rick Roberts' Warrior Foundation's mission is to help wounded and disabled military heroes leading the fight in the war against terror. They vow to assist, honor and support the soldiers, Sailors and Marines who have bravely served and sacrificed for our country. Please visit their website for more information on how you can make a donation or volunteer your time. www.warriorfoundation.com REBUILDING TOGETHER Every year I volunteer with this organization. In 2008 I assisted with the painting of the University City Fire Station. Rebuilding Together San Diego revitalizes homes and neighborhoods for low-income homeowners and communities in need, especially the elderly, disabled and families, helping them to live in warmth, safety and independence. In 2007, they completed 30 projects including the one I worked on. Please visit their website www.rebuildingtogethersd.org for information on how you can get involved with this great non-profit organization.
STUDENT TRAVEL & EXCHANGE PROGRAM (STEP)
Each Summer, I open my house to an exchange student from the Basque Region of Spain. This program is set up to have students from Spain experience life with an American family. The Students stay with their host family for a month. In addition to spending time with their host families, they also have chaperoned trips to Los Angeles and several San Diego attractions, with their favorite place being the beach. If you think that you might want to host a student next July or would like additional information about this program please email Lorene Linnehan at STEP92064@yahoo.com or call 858-342-6602. WANGENHEIM MIDDLE SCHOOL PTSA In 2008 I returned to the Wangenheim Middle School PTSA Board. I am the newsletter editor this year. Our children and schools need all the help we can provide. |
